Geological Survey of Tajikistan
Brief history of Tajikistan geological sector
The geological survey of Tajikistan is represented by the Head Department for Geology under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan established on June 28, 1938 by the decree No.275 of the Head Geological Department under the People’s Commissariat of Heavy Industry of the USSR on the basis of field parties and crews of Tajik-Pamir Expedition and a part of the Mid-Asian Geological Trust.
The geological study of the territory of modern Tajikistan was conducted back in the late XIX – early XX centuries. The systematic studies in the region were started by I. Mushketov, famous Russian geologist. Mushketov’s fundamental works – “Turkestan” and “Geological Map of Turkestan Region” – for several decades served as guidelines for geologists exploring Middle Asia.
